Chappie Ikalawa: The Trigger for the Storm

Sun May 24, 2009, 10:44 PM
Well, well, well...
The first few products are... experimental.

Again, as the intro gave, I'm a writer trying to draw. Signing in a few months before but didn't exactly update anything until now. So in other words, in the lines of deep thinking akin to Sherlock Homes, something must have happened between those few months. And as the title says: Trigger.

Long story short, these are the reasons:
1. Disappointment over our recently published literary portfolio, me as a writer in it.
2. Being introduced to the masterpiece called The Sandman by Neil Gaiman.

On the first trigger, I was already having doubts by theme that we used. "The Four Elements". As cliches go, that would get the top prize. But then again, I hesitated making a nag since it it still in the artists' abilities whether or not they can present an idea into a fresh perspective. Tragically... the submissions were too little and too unrelated to the theme and the pictures made little representation to the pieces (and vice versa).

The second point is directly related to the first. The first Sandman related book I read was The Endless Nights during my on-the-job training in an office. As I secretly move to a corner with nothing to do with the borrowed book, I finally came across Despair's portion. 15 Portraits of Despair - 15 short literary piece with corresponding vignettes portraying the character's nature and work. After reading that portion and reviewing it over and over again, I just couldn't help shouting "THIS is what a literary portfolio is suppose to look like!!"

Now just so happens this coming year I'm going to be the English literary editor and it just so happens that I am on my last year of college. What I would want to do is to ensure that the pics and pieces actually tie in together, unlike last time where we just mixed what seemed to match. Now if all else fails, and this is the trigger, why not make the illustrations myself? I know, I know that's not my line of expertise but hey, we all start somewhere, and at least I can give some sort of rough draft for the artists for the illustration if it's the writer's turn to give the shots.

For a legacy? Meh, not really. I just want to publish something worth reading. And I'm not buying the shameless excuses that were amateurs, because we know all too well that we have the capacity not to be.
